Anushka began to audition for film roles as an actor and attended an acting class alongside her career as model. Anushka began her career acting in the year the year 2008 on Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in the film, starring Shah Rukh Khan. For her screen test, she was not willing to take the test in a hurry and instead spent one day to get ready. Then, she signed on for three films together with Yash Raj Films. The film in which she starred played the role of a young bride of a middle-aged male (the role Shah Rukh Khan was playing). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka was a part of the cast along with Shahid Kapoor Meiyang Chang and Vir Das in the movie Badmash Company. The film was met with mixed receptions. Anushka was an Punjabi girl of middle class in the movie named 'Band Baaja Baraat. The film featured her alongside Ranveer. The film received a positive review. Anushka's contract for three films at Yash Raj Films ended with the release of Band Baaja Baaraat.
